Amritsar Flights and, Tourist Heart of Punjab |
| Amritsar has been the spiritual and tourist heart of Punjab throughout history.
It is home to the Golden Temple, a breathtakingly beautiful building which is a
keystone of the Sikh religion. Actually, the pool around the Golden Temple or Harmindar
Sahib has given the city its name, meaning pool of nectar. Pilgrims from all over
India and even Pakistan visit the Golden Temple for paying their respects. There
is so much to see in this city of historical importance that a tourist will surely
have the time of their life. The Golden Temple is only the beginning. There is Mata
Temple, a legendary Hindu cave-temple for Lal Devi. One will feel overwhelmed visiting
those mirrored hallways and low tunnels and submerged passageways. Then we have
Jallianwala Bagh and Summer Palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, both must-visit places
to complete the Amritsar experience! Jallianwala Bagh is witness to the 1919 Amritsar
Massacre. One can see the memorial erected for the memory of those who laid their
lives for the independence struggle against the British Raj. Even now the bullet
holes can be seen on the boundary walls that were fired on the unarmed, innocent
men, women and children. Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s Summer palace is an elegant complex
where you can visit the museum to see beautiful paintings, weaponry, currency and
miniatures. With a population of 1,500,000, Amritsar is a bustling capital of Punjab. It is popular for its handicrafts, fabrics, carpets, farm products, and hospitality industry. Urban growth is on the rise, and the city has seen much commercial and multiplex development. Incidentally, the city is also an important education centre and boasts educational institutions for arts, engineering and banking. (before the 4th line: There is so much to see in this city of historical importance that a tourist will surely have the time of their life…..) |

Amritsar Flights and, People of Amritsar |
| You will hardly find anyone more courageous and fun-loving than the people of Amritsar, Punjab; they are sweet and loving; full of celebratory spirit and enthusiasm for fun and festivity. They don’t have any match in kite-flying and bhangra dancing, some even say you can't drink more lassi than a Punjabi. Hailed as the “Home of All Virtues”, Amritsar is a beautiful city with a diverse culture and rich heritage. Punjabi poetry, dancing, food and customs dominate though. Religion and spirituality is a central theme of life. Punjabi cuisine, too, has world renown, and offers a wide range of different spicy and wholesome dishes. Saag and Makkim Roti is a staple for village folks, with Lassi downed to energize and refresh. Tandoori Chicken and Naan are no less in demand, with a generous amount of butter used to give it its rich taste. Then there is Tandoori Kulcha, Murg Makhanni, Tandoori Fish,Mutton Tikka, Aaloo-stuffed Paratha and many more tasty meals which are celebrated by the common platter and the connoisseurs alike. It is truly a melting cauldron of varied spices and exotic ingredients served to fill the vigorous appetite of the hearty Punjabis! |
